Press Release for ‘The Hairy Joes’

For Immediate Release

New Album for Underground Kings of Folk Music: The Hairy Joes.

The Hairy Joes are due to release their new album, ‘Rocking in the Shallows’ on the 17th

April, 2016. It comes three years after their first album; ‘Nearly Naked Nights’. The five-

piece Hairy Joes are established folk veterans with nearly one hundred festival

performances under their belts.

The Hairy Joes retain their original line-up of Joseph Cornwell (lead vocals and

harmonica), Jules Bass (backing vocals and guitar), Joe Merrit (double bass), Joanne

Welk (drums and backing vocals) and Kim Harey (clarinet, violin and triangle). Their

album is greatly anticipated after a campaign of joke titles circulated by the band.

Cornwell describes the new record as ‘a mix of upbeat West Country folk, silly pop-

culture references and outright nonsense’.

Their lively stage personae and tuneful renditions have attracted enthusiastic praise

from critics. Mark Elsmere has called their live shows ‘the best since The Wurzles in

their prime’. He has also heralded ‘Rocking in the Shallows’ as ‘future guilty pleasure

for millions on iTunes and an outright anthem for their local fans’.

‘Rolling in the Shallows’ will be available on CD at all major retailers (£12.99 RRP).

Selected stockists will be offering special editions on vinyl (£23.99 RRP). Digital copies

will be sold on iTunes and Amazon (£10.99 RRP). Upcoming performances include The

Isle of Wight Festival on the 4th of June 2016 and Glastonbury on the 29th June 2016.
